3 Simple Self-Healing Secrets

self-healing

3 months ago, on a hot August afternoon, I went to the corner drugstore to buy a wedding card for a friend. I found the perfect card quickly and got back into my car to return home. Moments later, my life was upended when a Dodge Ram 1600 truck plowed into the back of my car.

In an instant, I became dis-abled; unable to think clearly, track conversations, bend, lift, drive a car, handle everyday tasks, or control my emotions that now flooded to the surface.

My mind felt like sludge, and every inch of my body was in extreme pain.

In the ER at the hospital, I was x-rayed, CAT-scanned, and MRI’d. The results came back – a concussion, vertigo and a neck injury to several vertebrae. Not good news.

I was referred to medical doctors, chiropractors, orthopedic surgeons, and neurologists.

In the weeks that followed, the doctors told me that I would have lifelong problems due to my injuries; that because of my age (no comment) the repercussions and long-term effects would be even worse and more problematic. They said it would take a long time to heal.

How I Used Self-Healing to Get My Life Back

At first, I bought into the doctors’ scary prognoses. I got scared. I felt weak, helpless, powerless.

But, then, the part of me that had already reversed Multiple Sclerosis, gall-bladder disease, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, and other “irreversible” illnesses, kicked in.

I remembered that my body was designed to heal itself if given what it needs. I remembered the miracle that my body is and the power of my mind and soul to heal anything. I began to relax.

I stopped living in fear and panic. I let go of the anger, frustration and depression and quit feeling like a victim. Instead, I laser-focused on healing my body, mind and spirit.

How I Used Nature’s Pharmacy and Natural Healers to Recover

My doctors have been very impressed with my quick recovery. The neurologist, who on my first visit, rolled her eyes back into her head when I told her that I used “nature’s anti-inflammatories” – turmeric, ginger, lemon and pepper – instead of Ibuprofen or Advil, suddenly started asking me for recipes for turmeric and ginger on my last visit. She also asked me where I take yoga and what kind I practice.

She was so impressed that none of the many tests she had ordered showed any signs of disease or imbalance at my age (60+) – and that I take no prescription medications.

I am proof that natural self-healing works, that you don’t have to load up on medications and pain killers to avoid pain, that you don’t have to buy into the conventional medicine model 100% and assume you will never reverse your illness, disease or injuries fully, or that you just have to accept disease as a normal part of life; that chiropractors, energy healers, vibrational medicine, herbs, acupuncture and homeopathy all work as well or better than drugs. And, there is science to back this up.

You have the natural ability to heal yourself. Here are some of the ways I do that:

3 Simple, Soulful Self-Healing Tools

Here are 3 things that I did that brought me back to full recovery in a very short time:

1. Get still and quiet

I got still and quiet. I didn’t try to carry on as usual. I devoted myself to resting and self-healing because I’ve learned that the body only repairs itself when it is in rest mode or sleeping. If I wanted to heal, I would need to make rest a priority.

I stopped all the mental chatter – the fearful, angry thoughts that played themselves over and over like a feedback loop in my mind. I did this with mindfulness meditation, prayer and journaling.

 2. Reconnect with Your Source

Your source is whatever you feel is larger than you– your spiritual orientation, or your higher power. For me, it is God. I started asking the universe (God) to help me understand what this accident and the injuries were really about, because I knew that it wasn’t just about the Dodge Ram 1600 that was following too closely and too fast, or its driver.

Somewhere deep inside me I knew that while this was an accident, it really wasn’t. I have come to believe that things happen for a reason. Everything happens for a reason.

For example, every illness or accident has a lesson in it. So I asked to be shown what the lesson was.

I listened. I meditated. I prayed.

I knew that the answer or answers would come because I have learned that we all have all the answers inside of us, if we’re willing to listen and trust what we hear.

I’ve also come to believe that the underlying causes of illness, disease and injuries is this: People get sick (or injured) when they forget who they really are.

So, I started there: I asked myself, “how am I not being who I really am”? Or, how am I not being my True Self?

3. Live an Authentic Life

I love that saying, “Just be you. Everyone else is already taken.” When it comes to health and happiness, there is no other way to live that will not rob you of your vitality, joy and peace of mind. This isn’t always easy because most of us were not raised to see or value our uniqueness or our gifts – those things that make us uniquely us – those traits that we were born with, gifted  to us by our creator before we were even born.

We are each born with a purpose, and the gifts, talents and abilities to fulfill that purpose. But, we have to know our purpose and see our gifts in order to live the life we were born to live. And, once we know our purpose and why we are really here, we have to believe that we are capable and deserving of fulfilling our purpose.

We need courage to do that. Courage that was not encouraged in many of us as children, and needs to be developed to live an authentic life.

My Lesson – The Gift of My “Accident”

Courage. That was ultimately what my accident was about – the lesson. I needed to have more courage to speak my truth and share that with the world in a powerful way. I had been shrinking, playing small and feeling afraid to publicly share my true beliefs about health, happiness, purpose, and most of all about the divine nature of each and every soul on this earth.

You will be hearing more about this now that I’ve had this opportunity to see what I wasn’t seeing. It took a big knock on the head to help me see the light.

May your week be peaceful, fulfilling, and authentic.

Much Love,
