10 Minutes a Day is Enough to Reverse Chronic Illness

White LOGOYou may be asking yourself: Is it really possible to reverse chronic disease and make wellness a way of life in just 10 minutes a day?   Can 10 minutes of exercise or meditation be as effective as 30-40 minutes? The answer to both is absolutely yes. The 10-minute a day concept is research-proven, and I’ve seen it work in my life while I was reversing a serious autoimmune disease, diagnosed as probable multiple sclerosis. Since then, I’ve seen it work over and over in the lives of my psychotherapy and coaching clients.

Medical research shows that 10 minutes is enough to change a person’s health. The American Journal of Health Promotion released a study that showed that an active lifestyle that includes engaging in physical activity for less than 10 minutes multiple times a day can have the same health benefits as more structured exercise. Additionally, researchers at Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, studied 464 women who weren’t exercisers. After six months, a group who walked an average of 72 minutes a week at two to three mph—that’s about 10 minutes of mall-pace striding a day—had significantly improved heart strength and general fitness, nearly matching the efforts of women exercising almost twice as long. “Your body responds very positively, very quickly to even small amounts of exercise,” says lead study author Tim Church, MD, PhD. “If you’re sedentary, you’ll see a lot of your greatest gains going from zero to 10 minutes a day.”

I created my website, 10 Minute Wellness: Small Steps to Living a Healthier, Happier Life to help people create total health and indestructible happiness easily. I wanted people to know that wellness doesn’t have to be time-consuming, overwhelming, difficult or out of reach.

My upcoming book, 10 Minute Wellness: Reverse Chronic Illness and Live a Healthier, Happier Life, is an eight week program you can do in just 10 minutes a day to get well and stay well in all areas of your life. I am also offering this program as an 8-week Live Course offered on my website, so you can get started living the life you were meant to live—one that honors your body, mind and spirit— before the book is published.

Why 10 Minutes?

As I became a pioneer in wellness, I quickly learned that people in general feel overwhelmed and confused about how to improve their health. While there is an abundance of information on well-being, much of it appears in slick sound bites that are often confusing and conflicting; and it is difficult to know what to believe or what approach actually works to create health and happiness. I wrote 10-Minute Wellness as a solution to this problem, and it is my hope that you will find the answers you seek on this website and blog. Here you will find the tools and strategies that support you to look, feel, and be your best, healthiest, happiest, true self.

One of the biggest obstacles to personal wellness became apparent after working with thousands of psychotherapy and coaching clients over twenty two years— lack of time to get healthy. Research on wellness patterns show that lack of time is consistently listed as one of the top three hindrances to creating regular wellness habits.

And, it’s easy to see why. Life seems to be moving at warp speed, and an unsettling sense that time is actually shrinking niggles around in the back of our overscheduled, overcommitted minds. Since I opened my wellness center, The Miralinda Center for Well-Being, in 1995, I’ve found that the majority of the people who come to the seminars, weekend retreats, and see me for health coaching are struggling to find the time to get healthy and stay healthy.

So what gives? Why do we seem to be running, running, running all the time, and still can’t get everything done? While the same number of hours, days, and weeks make up our calendar year as a millennia or two ago, our world and our lifestyles have changed—dramatically; and this rapid change from sitting in rockers and swings on front porches sipping lemonade and carousing with our neighbors, to the lightening speed of technology that dominates our current lives has most of us reeling from the shift. Add to this the personal growth movement that goads us to reach our potential and we have a recipe for frenzied living. It is not difficult to see how trying to fit wellness habits into our already crowded lives seems completely overwhelming, or even impossible.

My website, blog and upcoming book are responses to that time-crunched feeling, and they’re built on the strategies and principles I used as I healed myself from a debilitating autoimmune disorder and transformed my life from illness, fatigue, and chaos to vibrant health, balance and happiness. These tools and strategies will help you create a path to physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual healing. May you find health and happiness!
